You have questions about lash extensions, and we want to answer them! Here are a few of our more frequently asked questions regarding lash extensions. If you have any more, don’t hesitate to contact us!
1. WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS MADE OF?
There are many materials lash extensions can be made of including mink,
silk, synthetic, human, or even horsehair. Synthetic is the most recommended
because they are not acquired from animals, and tend to be stronger than
other types of lashes.
2. CAN I GET MY LASH EXTENSIONS WET?
For the first 48 hours after getting your extensions, avoid getting them wet if
possible. The water will react with the eyelash extension glue and cause a
flash cure (this occurs when the water causes the bond to become brittle and
break). After 48 hours, you should be good to get them wet again. After the
48 hour grace period, water should not negatively impact your eyelashes, but
you will need to avoid harsh scrubbing or rubbing if you want to prolong the
life of your lashes.
3. HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?
If cared for properly, eyelash extensions can last up to three to six weeks!
Considering how many eyelashes we lose naturally each day, and how much
our eyes work for us on a day to day basis, this is a significant amount of
time! When you need to have them touched up, give us a call and we’d be
happy to fill them back in or touch them up.
4. WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT?
BOOK EARLY! The last thing you want to do is put a lash appointment on
hold till the last minute. In fact, we would recommend you schedule a
consultation so that we can plan out the best extension service for you.
During a consultation, we can cover options, create a custom look, and
answer any questions you might have.
HELPFUL TIPS FOR AFTERCARE
- For the first few nights after getting your extensions, sleep on your back. This will help avoid any loosening of the lashes or weird kinks while the glue is drying.
- Avoid getting oily products near the eye. Oil-based products tend to break up the bonds in the glue. And, well, we all know what happens when glue doesn’t work.
- One of the most important things you need to remember about eyelash extensions is that if you rub your eyes often, they will fall out sooner. Rubbing your eyes isn’t just bad for your eyes, but can cause a lot of strain on your natural lashes and extensions. If you disrupt them too often, the bond that holds your lashes to your natural lashes will weaken and eventually break. This doesn’t mean you have to completely avoid touching your eyes-just be more mindful of how you treat them.
